화이트퀸의 레드 제플린(Led Zeppelin) 컬렉션 Ver. 2

레드 제플린 전집을 네 번이나 샀다. 단일 앨범이라면 (부끄럽게도) 흔한 일이지만, 전집은 흔한 일이 아니다. 그냥 지나칠 수 있는 앨범이 하나도 없는 이 밴드는 주기적으로 새로운 버전을 출시하며 돈을 털어갔다. 게다가 지미 페이지 창고엔 아직 공개하지 않은 것들이 가득하다고 하니, 더 털릴 일만 남았다. (인간적으로 킹 크림슨처럼 20장짜리 박스셋은 내지 맙시다)

어릴 때 친구와 레드 제플린 최고의 앨범에 관해 밤새 수다를 떨다 결론을 못 내렸던 기억이 난다. 일단 지금은 밤샐 체력도 안 되는 게 슬프지만.

내 레드 제플린 컬렉션은 2010년에 한 번 올렸다. 무려 9년 전 포스팅이다. 2014년에는 LP 미니어처 박스셋 개봉기를 올렸다. 이것도 벌써 5년이 지났다.

이번에 올리는 컬렉션은 2014년부터 2015년까지 발매한 디럭스 에디션들이다. 지미 페이지 리마스터로 명시된 이 시리즈에는 보너스 디스크가 추가됐는데, 아쉽게도 미발표곡 비중이 작다. (이미 발표한 곡의 다른 버전들이 많다) 하지만 LP 시절의 오리지널 커버 재현이 훌륭해 소장 가치가 높다. (발매의 핵심은 역시 패키지라는 걸 다시 일깨워 줌)

1집 보너스 디스크에는 69년 파리 공연이 통째로 수록되었다. 다른 앨범도 이런 구성이었다면 더 만족스러웠을 듯. 

교과서 같은 앨범 [Led Zeppelin II] 보너스 디스크에는 러프 믹스, 백킹 트랙들이 수록되었다.

빙글빙글 돌아가는 커버를 멋지게 재현한 [Led Zeppelin III] 보너스 디스크 구성은 꽤 만족스럽다. 2010년대에 특히 많이 들었던 앨범

잔뜩 기대했던 [Led Zeppelin IV] 보너스 디스크는 조금 실망스럽다.

오리지널 커버 재현이 훌륭한 [Houses of the Holy] 보너스 디스크도 조금 아쉽다. ‘D'yer Mak'er’만 쏙 빠진 이유도 궁금하고.

패키지부터 큰 만족감을 주는 [Physical Graffiti] 보너스 디스크는 꽤 흥미롭다. 4, 5집 앨범 작업 때 만든 곡을 꽤 많이 수록한 앨범인데도 구성력이 떨어지지 않는다.

발표한 정규 앨범 중 가장 저조한 반응을 얻었고 다소 어렵다는 평가도 받았지만, LP로 산 첫 앨범이라 더 애착이 가는 [Presence] 보너스 디스크에는 레퍼런스 믹스 트랙들이 수록되었다.

오리지널 앨범에서 6곡이 추가된 [The Song Remains the Same] 확장판은 다양한 버전이 존재한다. 내가 가지고 있는 건 2008년 미국에서 발매한 디지팩 버전이며 2018년에는 블루레이 오디오가 출시됐다.

내가 제일 많이 들은 레드 제플린 앨범이 [In Through the Out Door]다. 안타깝게도 마지막 정규 앨범이 되었고, 평단의 반응은 여전히 복합적이다. 보너스 디스크에는 러프 믹스 트랙들이 수록되었다.

정규 앨범에 실리지 않은 곡을 모은 컴필레이션 [Coda] 확장판은 아주 만족스럽다. 두 장으로 구성된 보너스 디스크에 다양한 곡이 수록되었다.

[BBC Sessions] 확장판으로 2016년에 발매된 컴플리트 세션스 에디션. 보너스 디스크에 앞선 버전에 수록하지 않았던 아홉 곡이 추가됐다.

2003년에 발매된 라이브 앨범 [How the West Was Won]. 1972년 미국 공연을 수록한 이 앨범은 2018년 리마스터 버전도 나왔는데, 그건 안 샀다.

역사적인 2007년 재결성 공연이 담긴 [Celebration Day]. 당시 녹음이 워낙 잘된 덕에 오버 더빙과 편집을 많이 안 했다는 후문. 이 앨범이 나왔을 당시 블루레이가 없어서 DVD 합본 버전을 산 게 조금 아쉽다.
