AMG는 무려 18장의 앨범에 별 다섯 개를 줬습니다. 사실 재즈 앨범 리뷰들은 공신력이 좀 떨어지지만, 새삼 마일스 데이비스의 위력을 느낄 수 있습니다. 마일스만큼 별 다섯 개를 많이 남발한 뮤지션이 있을까 싶습니다. (개인적으로 좋아하는 ‘The New Miles Davis Quintet’ 앨범은 별 세 개를 줬네요.)

최근에는 ‘Perfect Miles Davis Collection’이라는 앨범 20장을 담은 22장짜리 박스세트도 발매됐습니다. 22장짜리 시디를 6만원 정도에 살 수 있는 잔인한 컬렉션입니다. 각 앨범의 가장 최근 발매 버전을 수록했고, 40페이지 부클릿도 포함됐습니다.

제값주고 재즈 앨범 사던 시대도 끝나려나봅니다. 가끔씩 비싼 수입 시디 하나씩 사곤 했던 게 벌써 오래전 일이 되었습니다. 문제는 이런 박스 세트를 몇 개 사면 한 번도 안 듣는 앨범이 생긴다는 것이죠.
