퀸(Queen) 결성 40주년 기념_ 정규 앨범 15장 리마스터링 + 새로운 편집 앨범 발매

구차한 수식어가 필요 없는 그룹 퀸(Queen)이 그룹 결성 40주년을 맞이하였습니다. 아울러 2011년은 프레디 머큐리(Freddie Mercury) 20주기가 되는 해이기도 합니다. 또한 향후 퀸 앨범 발매를 유니버설(Universal) 레이블이 맡게 되어 기존의 EMI 앨범들은 더 이상 재발매가 되지 않습니다.

40주년을 기념할 여러 이벤트들을 예상해봤는데, 가장 확실하고 또 활발한 것은 역시 음반과 기념품 발매입니다. 퀸 역시도 2009년의 비틀즈(Beatles)와 롤링 스톤즈(Rolling Stones)처럼 본격적으로 재발매 열풍에 동참, 마니아들을 긴장시키고 있지요. 올해 초에 2011 Remaster Version으로 ‘Greatest Hits I & II’가 새롭게 발매되었고, 3월부터 3개월 간격으로 정규 앨범들이 5장씩 발매됩니다. 모두 2011 Remaster에 2 CD 버전은 Bonus EP를 수록하고 있습니다. 

2011 Remaster 시리즈의 시작을 알린, 가장 많이 팔린 퀸의 앨범 Greatest Hits I & II

개인적으로 단순한 ‘리마스터링 재발매’가 전부였다면 별로 반갑지 않았을 것입니다. 이미 Tape, LP, CD의 순서로 모든 앨범을 컬렉션 했던 경험이 있고, 그것으로도 부족해 앨범마다 리믹스 버전 중심의 보너스 트랙을 수록했던 미국 할리우드 레코드의 20주년 기념 시디들도 전부 컬렉션 했기 때문이지요.

불행인지 다행인지 이번 40주년 에디션은 마니아들을 제법 의식한 것 같습니다. 리마스터링으로만은 약하다고 생각했는지, 15장의 정규 앨범 모두를 2 CD 에디션으로 발매합니다. (1 CD 버전도 있어요) CD 1은 리마스터링 된 오리지널 앨범을, CD 2에는 Bonus EP 개념으로 희귀 음원 5~6곡을 수록합니다. 마니아들의 눈을 사로잡은 것이 바로 Bonus EP입니다. 초기 데모와 BBC 세션, 부틀렉으로만 들을 수 있던 라이브들과 리믹스 버전 등을 만날 수 있기 때문이지요. 3월에 초기 앨범 다섯 장과 'Deep Cuts ('73-'76 Best)'가 발매되었습니다. 다음 앨범 다섯 장과 'Deep Cuts Vol.2 ('77-'82 Best)'는 6월에 발매될 예정입니다. 지금까지 공개된 앨범들의 수록곡은 아래와 같습니다.

히트곡 모음집과는 성격이 다른, 일종의 숨은 명곡들을 대거 만날 수 있는 편집 앨범입니다. 2, 4, 5번 트랙을 제외하고는 모두 편집 앨범에 최초로 실리는 곡들입니다. 개인적으로는 3집 앨범의 인상적인 메들리인 9~11 트랙과 13번 트랙 'The March Of The Black Queen'을 강력하게 추천합니다. 만약 'Greatest Hits'만을 가지고 있으시다면, 이 앨범은 더더욱 소장가치가 높습니다.

 

Queen Re-issues Collector's Box
이것은 40주년을 기념하여 한 번만 발매하는 박스 세트입니다. 초기 앨범 5장 + 15개의 스튜디오 앨범을 모두 넣을 수 있는 박스가 제공되며, 주얼 케이스로 제작됩니다. 영국반은 4월에 발매되어 £59.99에, 미국(할리우드)반은 5월에 발매되어 $74.14에 판매합니다. 개인적으로는 박스 세트에 별로 관심이 없는데, 컬렉터라면 충분히 탐낼만한 아이템입니다.

퀸의 숨은 명곡들을 대거 만날 수 있는 편집 앨범 시리즈의 2탄입니다. 역시 대부분이 편집 앨범에 최초로 실리는 곡들입니다. 개인적으로는 퀸의 변화무쌍함을 엿볼 수 있는 1, 4, 10번 트랙을 추천하고 싶습니다. 물론 이미 팬들의 많은 사랑을 받은 3, 8, 13번 트랙과 같은 발라드도 빼놓을 수 없습니다. 'Battle Theme'가 엔딩인 것은 다소 의외군요.

올해 9월에는 나머지 앨범 다섯 장과 'Deep Cuts Vol.3 ('84-'95)'가 발매됩니다. 11월에는 새 베스트 앨범 'Forever Queen'이 1 CD와 2 CD로 발매될 예정이라는데, 이것은 별로 반갑지 않은 소식이네요. 개인적으로는 1970년대 라이브 실황이나 새로운 DVD가 추가로 더 발매되었으면 합니다. 앨범과 관련된 새로운 정보는 본 게시물에 계속 업데이트 하겠습니다.
