이것은 그간의 특별 발매와는 격을 달리하는 초유의 사건(!)이다. 25장의 CD를 10만원도 되지 않는 가격에 판매한다는 'Mid Price' 개념이나 'LP Sleeve' 형태라는 것은 오히려 결정적인 메리트라 할 수 없을 정도다.

개인적으로는 LP 시절부터 즐긴 작품들이 많고, 보통은 수입 CD들로 다시 구매했거나 구매 예정인 작품들이다. 사실 이런 거장들이라면 별로 알려지지 않은 작품들로 세트를 구성할만도 한데, 결코 그렇지 않다. 별로 꺼내고 싶지 않은 이야기지만, 일종의 '명반' 컬렉션에 가깝다. 어디까지나 참고 사항이지만, 24개의 타이틀 중 무려 20 타이틀이 AMG(올 뮤직 가이드) 만점인 별 다섯 개를 받기도 했다. (나머지 앨범들도 별 넷 이상)

Cannonball Adderley의 Somethin' Else, Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers의 Moanin', John Coltrane의 Blue Train, Eric Dolphy의 Out To Lunch, Dexter Gordon의 Go! 등등... 이건 '유혹'이 아니라 '협박'에 가깝다. '입문'과 '소장'의 가치 모두 손색이 없다. 신년부터 '빈곤'속 '풍요'가 이어지게 생겼다. 부디 이것을 계기로 미뤄둔 Jazz CD들을 연달아 구매하는 열풍(?)이 일어나지 않길 바랄 뿐이다. 여기에 선정된 앨범 중 단 하나도 들어보지 않은 상태로 Jazz가 좋거나 혹은 어렵다고 말하는 당신은 ‘거짓말쟁이’다.

    MM Jazz 3년 정기구독 선물로 이 박스셋을 준다는 것을 듣고, 잡지를 무려 3년치를 구독해 버렸습니다. 이제 7장 들었는데......의외로 Art Blakey의 연주가 귀에 확실히 꽂히더군요. Jazz는 확실히 저에게는 생소한 장르더군요. 음악의 여행길을 멀고도 먼 것 같습니다.

      모르고 있습니다. 덕분에 시디사는 갯수가 조금 줄기는 했지만 말이죠 ㅎㅎ
